How i have media others don’t.

Supplies:
- Cable Box with DVR function
- EyeTV Software and Hardware
- TV.com Website
- LOTS OF HARD DRIVE SPACE

Idea:
Basically i hate not owning certain things when it comes to video. Being a huge fan of animation and Disney/Nickelodeon shows since i was a child i hate the fact a lot of those shows from my past are gone to to the great media hole in the sky. So i decided to build a setup that would be easy to gain a digital copy of anything i want from TV with out a lot of complicated software.

Setup:
I have 2 cable lines coming into my space 1 for internet and 1 for cable tv. I take the one for cable tv and using a high quality cable splitter i break it into 2 outputs off the cable box. The first goes to my 720p television set as the basic watching tv line. The other goes into a EyeTV Hybrid that goes into my mac. I have setup on the cable box all the shows i want to save and allow it to record. I then pull up the cable box in EyeTV when i have free time, hit record on EyeTV and play on the DVR for each show. This gives me a digital copy of the show in the same time it takes the show to run. I then label the show using TV.Com and a Name.S00E00 style and compress the show into AppleTV format (A Basic high quality MP4) with out the commercials.

Legal?:
Not sure really. I don’t share anything with others on any kind of pvp environment or pirate dvd this is just for my own private consumption. I pay a large amount for my cable service and buy any season dvds that are released for these shows at which point i delete my copy. This is basically the only way some of these shows will ever stay around. I would kill for a total set of You Can’t Do That On Television can i buy it? No. This prevents this from ever happening to me again.
